CODE OF ETHICS

 

The members of the WCFI are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

 

 

  1. HEALTH AND CARE OF DOGS:

 

a)      Dogs and bitches and all other dogs present in the kennels must be kept in appropriate healthy and hygienic conditions, with sufficient internal and external space for their physical and character needs.

b)      All dogs, bitches and litters must under go regular preventative vaccinations, they must be kept free from internal and external parasites and under the regular control of a veterinary doctor.

c)      Every breeder must programme the breeding of a litter only when he/she is able to assist (also with a third person) the bitch and litter up to the first eight weeks, providing the correct attention and socialisation.

 

2        BREEDING

 

a)      The owner must only breed with dogs listed in the Italian Genealogical Book or listed with organisations affiliated with the F.C.I. and being of the same breed.

b)      Only dogs and bitches of sound temperament and structure, good health and characteristic type as described in the Official Standard for the Welsh Corgi must be used in breeding.

c)      Dogs and bitches should not be used for breeding if they have serious genetic defects such as lameness, sight problems, cryptorchidism, monorchidism, or impairment of vital functions.

d)      A bitch should not be bred before the second heat season and it is advisable to wait until the third.

e)      A bitch should not be bred more than 2 consecutive heat seasons and it is strongly advised to not breed more than 2 out of 3 consecutive heat seasons.

f)       It is not allowed to perform caesarian births on the same bitch more than 3 times and we recommend , after the second, to verify with  the confidence veterinarian the opportunity to execute a third.

 

3        SALE AND ENTRUSTMENT

 

a)      Potential buyers must be examined scrupulously by the breeder, in the interests of the puppies and the new owner. All the necessary information on the breed must be given, describing attributes and defects and potential owners who are considered to be unsuitable should be discouraged.

b)      There must be no breeding, selling or delivering of litters to pet dealers or commercial retailers of any type not even people who are suspected of having the intention of reselling the litter to a third party. There should be no wholesaling of litters.

c)      The quality of the litter sold should be evaluated honestly and communicated to the potential owners.

d)      Puppies should be a minimum of 8 weeks old with the appropriate vaccination and with valid documentation of the registration and pedigree from the WCFI from the country of residence of the bitch at the moment of having the litter. All the necessary information must be given to the potential owner to ensure the necessary care and attention from puppy to adult.

e)      Litters affected by serious defects will be given up without pedigree and their future owners are to be informed of the said defect.

 

4        DOG SHOWING

 

a)      Members are expected to participate in shows in a sporting way and not behave offensively towards judges or other WCFI members.

 

5        GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

a)      It is not allowed to have relationships (selling or buying dogs, or offering or receiving breeding services) with people who have previously manifested behaviour in conflict with the above directives, or have been expelled from this organisation. Cases of an exceptional nature must be dealt with by the governing body.

b)      Members who do not respect the rules, regulations and ethics of the WCFI will be considered by the governing body and may be expelled from the WCFI.

c)      Any transgression of the points 2a, 2c, 3b, 3e, 5a will be considered extremely serious.
